Aortal – Thymewise and The Gamer’s Nook

I’ve been a supporter of the InterNet as “folk revolution” as long as I have had an email account (since 1988). Aortal.com is not a network or a portal, but a movement of bloggers who, each week, promote another blog. This is a Thursday series. I encourage others to do the same.

She says she likes it with a plunger and Dan Quayle. He imagines himself as an orc chieftain torturing pretty elves. They’re married, they’re liberals, and they’re Wiccan. Two out of three of these facts account for why I have chosen Thymewise and The Gamer’s Nook as my Aortal links for Halloween.

If there’s nothing else going on in her life, you can rest assured that Kim will post her “thought of the day“, an erudite panoply of knowledge which appears to be the result of reading that she does for herself. She writes briefly and to the point about things like the Witches Ball, essential oils, oppresive lawsuits by “free marketeers”, and her emotional struggles with childlessness.

Her husband, Scott, put me onto the lastest fashion in paranoid politics, the aluminum foil deflector beanie. (I might see if I have enough aluminum foil to squander on this for my handing-out-the-candies apparel tonight.) I’ve seen remarkably little comment about Scott’s professed loves, fantasy role-playing gaming and the New York Rangers, on the site. Political commentary seems to be Scott’s primary focus, with his keen gadfly nose zooming in on conservative absurdities of the day such as dittohead comment trolls, Bush’s backdoor cut of veterans’ benefits, an amusing series of mocking faux recruitment posters, and his frustrations about the coverage given to anti-war rallies. There’s also his longer take on the Witch’s Ball which includes rants against fluffy bunny Wiccanism, mispronunciation of key terms like Samhain, and superificial observance of the need to focus on “world peace”.
