Feeling frustrated is not the same as being hard on yourself. I received some communication about my posts about mania earlier this week where the sender thought I was self-lacerating. I don’t see where that is the case, but then I am a writer and I am sensitive to the differences between an alder and a sycamore. In this dry country, I could go farther and say that I know what is a trail and what is a dry creekbed. And hating the disease is not the same as hating myself — as long as I make and understand the distinction.
