Drudgery and Mischance

Posted on November 3, 2002 in Celebrations Life as Metaphor

I’m working behind the scenes, doing the kind of work I detest mightily: reconstruction of databases one record at a time. I’ve got Lynn committed to help beginning at the end of the week. More volunteers to do data entry and art would be a nice thing.

We took my mother out for her birthday lunch. As I rounded the bend where Interstate 15E becomes the Crosstown Freeway in San Bernardino, I regretted leaving my camera behind as a un-needed nuisance. Every last pine tree on the crest of the San Bernardino Mountains was visible from the valley: the detail stunned me. I knew the exact spot where I could take a brilliant panorama of the encircling ranges, but both my digital and my Nikon remained at home. Alas! I could only sigh at the clouds which drifted in the deep cerulean sky like bits of ripped paper floating in a sky-mirroring stream.
