Heat Wave

Posted on March 9, 2007 in Weather

square220My readers in the north get no comfort from hearing that a heat wave is due here over the weekend. It means that I have to give the air conditioner a kick for a day or two of inferno while the whole of Portola Hills watches the foothills for wisps and scent traces of smoke which might indicate that a fire is about to dig its claws into the belly of a Santa Ana and take us out. The rain has been lacking and anyone in the know shouldn’t be happy about the forecast.

We may not need snow shovels, but a few spare buckets of water could mean the difference between a home and a blackened foundation.

South American Indians believe that if you ask the frogs to sing long and loud, it will rain harder. The other night I made this request of the toads which like to hang around the ornamental waterfall. The next morning the area smelled of chlorine. My little bringers of showers floated belly up in the pond.

Fuck purity.
