Divine BDSM?

Posted on January 6, 2003 in Mailbox Myths & Mysticism

I received a rather crudely written message that indicates that I am going to Hell, perhaps because of my articles at City of the Silent or perhaps because of things I have written here. Someone must be offering a bounty on my salvation, because the sender (one David Montenegro) made sure that I got two copies:

I confess i am a sinner, i am bad, i will never be good(God), i am lier man,

so please do not believe me, but believe God, if not i swear you will be
in the burning hell forever.

I feel like I’ve just got off the boat in Iraklion and a guy, who is obviously from Crete, has just said to me “Everything a Cretan tells you is a lie”. Don’t believe me when I tell you that if you don’t believe in God, you’re going to hell forever?

The page in question purports to speak of the role of St. Michael in the Last Days. In actuality, the page barely speaks of the archangel, save in the title, but quotes the usual apocalyptic passages in a fashion designed to frighten the living daylights out of anyone who screams before the needle is even inserted. (Too bad I’ve had all those root canals. I can take the pain!) Jesus said that he didn’t bring peace, but a sword: this fellow pulls out a fragmentation grenade and lets me have it.

I have been beaten, harassed, and threatened in my life, yet I still hold to values which I have formulated for myself. What makes him think that he can move me with threats of postmortem violence? If I have survived all the abuse of my days without once having attempted suicide, what makes him think he can frighten me into submission with this?

David, evidentally, is one who believes in the healing power of Divine BDSM. I don’t.

A gem from this personal “revelation”:

I think michael will be of the ones who needs wife because he will be/is the Last Adam

This fellow obviously thinks that priests should marry, but how did my name get pulled out of the great top hat of InterNet sites?
