Today marks the death of Joshua Norton, better known as Norton I, Emperor of the United States and Protector of Mexico.

It is traditional to eat crab meat on this day. The ones on your body may be consumed only if you are of the lesser orders of primate. Otherwise, Dungeness Crabs and Red Rock Crabs are the approved varieties, though, in a pinch, you may consume King Crab or the canned stuff from Taiwan instead.
Remember: Don’t call it “Frisco”.
Though it is not customary to send the Emperor or his Chambrlain a GIFT on this holiday, such displays of affection will not be looked down upon.
