Worth it

Posted on January 28, 2003 in Peace

The pressure to make peace grows. As George W. Bush attempts to launch a new jingoistic diatribe couched within his constitutional duty of presenting the State of the Union address, people gather, people plan to counter it.

When we were down in Mexico, I saw the papers speaking of the massive demonstrations. “I bet that didn’t appear in the USA press,” I remarked cynically.

“Oh, but it did,” said Lynn. “Every blog I read tonight pointed to the papers and remarked on it.”

Interesting, I thought. The Bush sacrifice of a whole nation to his personal war gods was being, if not thwarted, tested. The article Raye describes the other day — could that be nothing more than propaganda floated out to attempt to save Bush’s ship?

We may well see concussions, broken bones, and worse conditions wreaked by police as this administration grows nervous as the unanswered questions — about the elections, the motives of the Residential cabal as well as the war — press on the unelected. And it may be worth it.
