Mexico City 9

Posted on January 29, 2003 in Photos

My new Paths of Light gallery initiates two or three days of images of skulls.

Friends who know of my interest in the Day of the Dead will be pleased (or shocked) to learn that I added two pieces to my collection while I was in Mexico City. The first was a shadow box featuring several classic calacas figures surrounded by pictures of and by Frida Kahlo.

The second was a whimsical piece that I found in the Palacio Belle Artes bookstore. It’s the skeleton of, I suppose, a sombrero-donning dog biting a colorful blue octopus.

The skulls in this section don’t possess that same sense of humor, I’m afraid. Or do they?
