American Police State

I’m well enough and conscious enough to think — the pain waits around the corner, ready to knock me down when the vicodin wears off — so I thought I would do some pointers to other blogs and news articles that should give all Americans the chills:
- A recent study by U.S. scientists suggests that false memories can be implanted under interrogation. You’ll love George W. Bush after a few hours of coaching down at the Homeland Security Office, maybe even provide the eyewitness testimony that they need to prove that your Quaker, Mennonite, or Humanist neighbor had been aiding and abetting terrorist causes.
- blu tells what they can do to you if the Domestic Security Enhancement Act goes through: take away your citizenship without your knowing about it. How’s that for a start. This won’t be nearly as hard on those who were born in other countries, but gadflies like blu and myself may find ourselves in the curious situation of being “stateless persons”, subject to deportation to any nation brave enough to take us.
Sounds like a good time to start demanding a line item accounting of all the weapons and devices that your local police department has been buying instead of raising officer salaries.
