New Battle of Lexington

Posted on March 6, 2003 in Citizenship Courage & Activism Crosstalk

I don’t normally do media blogs, but Toby has brought up something utterly bizarre and worth commenting upon.

It seems that the FBI is concerned that some students at Lexington High School (as in Lexington, Massachusetts) organized a peace protest. Those who have forgotten our nation’s history and political values need be reminded that Lexington was the site where the first shot of the American Revolution was fired against King George III’s tyranny.

Now we have George W. Bush to stand against.

Instead of being fired upon by a line on the village green, the FBI was simply laughed out of town by the people. The shame was such that no reports of FBI harassment in Concord at the Old North Bridge were reported, though that could come later.

Now, to rewrite Emerson, we may speak of

Where now the embattled students stand

And let out the shout heard round the world.

God bless those patriots, every one.

Stolen through Raye.
