More War Blogging

Posted on March 17, 2003 in Gratitude March16Vigil Pointers

A few selections from those who put a candle on their page:

  • Doing the Dunno found this link about a fish who shouted that the “end is near”. Talk about carping!

  • Umair has discovered Edward Said, whose Berkeley lecture comparing the human rights violations committed by Iraq and Israel is now online.

  • Chryse posted an Apology to America from Canada. Sample:

I’m sorry we called George Bush a moron. He is a moron but, it wasn’t nice of us to point it out. If it’s any consolation, the fact that he’s a moron shouldn’t reflect poorly on the people of America. After all, it’s not like you actually elected him.

  • Annie caught a news story about a U.S. diplomat who is resigning his post today because of his conscientious objection to Bush Administration policies.

  • Doug the Mute Troubadour points to two United Methodist Bishops who have declared that George W. Bush is not following the teachings of his church. Doug, himself, feels that UMC statements on the matter of war have been, at best, wishy washy, allowing Bush plenty of wiggle-room. I pointed out on his tag board that the statements say nothing about the evil of excessive preparations for war, such as stockpiling chemical, biological, and nuclear weapons whose use is strictly aggressive.

  • Alison wrote of people leaving nasty notes in luggage when they found things that did not meet their political approval.

  • Meaghan got the quivers from reading some columnist’s ravings about these being “the end times”. Combine this with the story of the carping carp which Dunno points us to, you can see that the world is ajitter.

  • Laura wants to know why an attack on an Illinois mosque during prayers was not covered by the media.

  • Jeremy took a tour of pro-war blogs:

Of course, one’s first thought is to log on and post some comments of one’s own, but that’d be a bit like an ant walking into a beehive to complain about the buzzing. Better just to leave these alone, let them fill their pathetic, miserable little lives by lashing out at people who did nothing to them.

I’ve found a few blogs that deserve a spot on my blogroll and I have put them there. Thanks to all who participated in the candle vigil.
