What’s in a Name? Letters

Posted on March 18, 2003 in Whimsies

Kyped from Mute Troubadour:

Your name of Joel gives you the desire to understand and help others with their problems but, at the same time, you can become too involved in their problems and, as a result, worry too much. This name creates a pleasant, easy-going, yet responsible nature. It gives you a natural ability to express affection to those close to you, without feelings of embarrassment. You tend to avoid issues, however, and put off until tomorrow the things which should be done today. Accordingly, you would find difficulty in achieving success in positions requiring aggressiveness and drive. Also, you prefer to avoid strenuous work of a manual nature. Your natural inclination is to pursue a line of work where you have contact with people, where you carry some responsibility, and where you are engaged in mental rather than physical activity. You are diplomatic in your handling of people and always give others the benefit of the doubt. You appreciate good music and art. The health weaknesses created by this name affect the fluid functions.

The first sentence comes close to describing me, but there are complete wrong turns in the rest of the paragraph. For example:

  • I get very embarassed expressing affection — just ask my wife and the few people who know me well in private life). Most women will tell you that among the first words I said to them either online or off are “I’m married” — if that isn’t pushing someone away, what is?
  • I go back and forth on the whole issues thing. I’m outspoken to a point. I live by two fears: of betraying myself by not speaking honestly and not having any friends. The two often clash.
  • I am more than happy working alone with my only contact being Lynn for days, though I do like to get out and meet other people.
  • Diplomatic? I fear that my definition of diplomacy differs from that held by others.
  • Good music and art? I know what I like. I listen to a broad range of music and like all kinds of art, including kitsch. Good and bad? Who is to say?
  • My urinary tract is just fine. It’s my brain, my lungs, and my pancreas that are out of kilter.

I took the liberty of putting in a few other names and came up with personalities that just don’t fit how I see their owners at the moment. It’s the old dice game: sometimes you’ll hit the mark and often you’ll miss, but people remember the string of double sixes that gammoned their opponents and not the one and the two that spoiled their victory.

Try your luck here. Step right up! Pick a name! Any name!
