Tracy lays in the hallway now, unable to close her eyes or to move. I check her frequently to see if she’s breathing. Once she got a claw stuck in her collar. I gently pulled it away.
I don’t know what is passing through her eyes as she lays there. Perhaps she is watching the front door for Lynn to return home, Lynn who always held her close when she slept, like a mother held her baby.
It’s a matter of hours now.
An hour later: After I ate my dinner, I wrapped her in a towel and took her into my lap. She’s not crying much. Every now and then she twitches to let me know that she is still with me. It’s a little akward typing at the computer, but these are precious hours. I want her to know in the end that she was loved.
