It was time to get off my lazy butt and continue the series I began about my January adventure in Mexico City and its environs.
Today’s selection focuses on the pilgrims who come to the shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe. The place is especially crowded on Sunday when masses are said continually in the five churches on the site and people line up for blocks for baptisms at the special baptistry located behind a shining bronze statue of John Paul 2. You’ll see some keen flagellants, a woman walking on her knees, and what appears at first glance to be a miraculous halo around the head of a statue of the virgin (but is actually a lucky case of lens flare that developed because I was shooting into the sun.
