Honor, Shame, Friends, and Therapy

Posted on December 2, 2003 in Morals & Ethics Suicide

I can do without the good old days when we kept matters of incest and rape to ourselves. Rofayda Qaoud deserved shelter and understanding. If she couldn’t find it within her family and her circle of friends, why couldn’t she go outside of that box for it?

Policy Statement Amendments

Posted on December 1, 2003 in Site News

Additions to the Web Site Policy.

The philosophy statement has been amended to read:

Philosophy: My comments area is not an open marketplace or a gladitorial arena. Advertisements are not welcome. If you come here to “spar” or pick fights, please go elsewhere. What I seek are sincere expressions of points of view whether or not they agree with me. Use my comments to express your ideas and points of view. If you are unclear on what I mean, please ask me before criticizing. If you must respond at length or flame, please do so on your own website and use the trackback function to link back. I reserve the right to know who is posting to my site.

The fifth point under comments — “Exhibitions of obsessive behavior. (e.g. Someone who will not let a heated discussion die.” has been expanded to include:

Exhibitions of obsessive and /or paranoic behavior. (e.g. Someone who will not let a heated discussion die; one trick ponies who only come to debate with me on a favorite issue; excessive secrecy about one’s identity — Nicknames are OK, but I must be able to track you. Respond to my email and show me that you are a real person.)

I’ve expanded number 6 under comments:

Advertisements for products, political parties, and services. If you include any link to such a site in your personal URL, the whole comment will be considered advertising.

I’ve added these to reasons for deleting comments:

Insulting or teasing nicknames.

Cookie cutter comments (the same or highly similar comment reprinted on several blogs).

This section (Elastic Clause) remains unchanged, but is worth recapitulating:

I reserve the right to apply or not apply the principles above as I see fit. I reserve the right to stretch or invent rules to cover new situations.

Address views on this to me via my email address which is gazissax@best.com.

Open Letter to Yule: Violence against Men

Posted on December 1, 2003 in Social Justice War

The trouble with the men who you describe is that their comments serve to close down debate, not present better solutions that cover all the cases.
