Fifty Dollars A Day!

Just after I read and responded to this bit blog about SUVs at ConNiPtioN, we went out to dinner. Enroute, the yellow light went on in my Nissan Frontier toy truck, so I stopped for gas where I overheard this conversation between a Humvee owner and some other guy:

“How much does it take?”

The Humvee owner, who was thin fellow with the military cue-ball cut, said “I use about fifty dollars of gas every day.”

“Fifty dollars!” cried I. “Why Bin Laden is heavily in your debt!”

The two of them blanked for a moment and then, staring intensely at one another’s eyebrows, changed the subject as if the issue and the man who raised it didn’t exist.
