Not Endorsements

Posted on July 10, 2003 in Campaign 2004

For the record, I am willing to support the following Democrats for president:

  • Carol Mosely Braun
  • Howard Dean
  • John Kerry
  • Dennis Kucinich

I’ve ruled out the rest for one or more of the following reasons:

  • Insufficient opposition to the war in Iraq
  • Insufficient leadership
  • Too conservative on civil liberties issues
  • Wacko (applies to only one candidate….guess!)

Some have pressed that I also include Dick Gephardt in the list. My reservation about Gephardt is that when he had the opposition leadership position in the House, he failed to be effective in it. I do not think his history suits him as an administrator. I would, however, accept a ticket with him as a Vice President.

If Al Sharpton or Joseph Lieberman were put forth as Vice President, I would seriously consider not voting for the Democratic candidate, even one of the ones I have listed as acceptable.

I make no endorsements at this time beyond this narrowing at this time. I ask to be pressured to make none.
