One of the few jingoistic cartoons that I enjoy and shamelessly invite friends to watch.
I had heard that Disney pulled Der Fuerher’s Face out of circulation because it was “racist”. A caricature of Tojo is the basis for this claim and I’m not impressed. (There are far worse slurs on the Japanese people at this archive of jingoist cartoons.)
Note the similarity of life in the dream sequence to what the Right wants to promote in America today: no more paid overtime, the demand that you have to “love the leader because he is the leader”, the emphasis on making bombs and more bombs, ” we never will be safe”, “we bring the world new order”, etc.
Given the nature of today’s corporate culture, I think that the real reason for censorship is that they don’t like the way that certain capitalist authoritarian values are parodied.
Thanks to Jeremy for finding this classic.
