Pig’s Ear 2

Posted on July 18, 2003 in Cats

The pig’s ear works well to deal with the teething that Boadicea and Fiona feel moved to do at this stage in their life. Its power weakens, however, at feeding times when Boadicea feels obligated to give me several little bites around the knuckles.

Her favorite toy is a cylindrical cloth thing that resembles a carrot on acid that we call a “tiger tail”. The Tiger Tail is a most important toy and it is the subject of endless feints and thefts involving our two youngsters. Boadicea seems to enjoy first claim to it, though I’ve seen Fiona get to it first and throw it a few times.

Lynn and I try to keep track of where Tiger Tail is because it can be very useful for clearing the bedroom of all kittens when they are in a frisky mood. I need only grab it by the scarlet fuzz and toss it out the door. Boadicea charges after it and — if Bast is willing — Fiona follows. Fiona lives in a constant daze, however, tossing her head around like she’s trying to hear the sound of her brain rattling about inside of it. Either we throw Tiger Tail again when Boadicea comes back or one of us removes Fiona to the exit.

Half of the pig’s ear remains in our bed at all times. This is so when Boadicea comes in a teething mood, we can shove it in her mouth and immediately content her.
