Note: This is part of a series based on exercises from A Writer’s Book of Days. It’s something of a rebellion against the Friday Five and similar tupperware content memes.
Today’s topic: Write about an eclipse.
Yesterday, after the power outage, we needed to restart the bread machine. The dough had risen and spread out to fill the top of the machine; when I switched it back on, the quivering cube collapsed back into a ball.
It baked. When I opened the top, instead of the plump half globe of the loaf, I saw a depression as deep as the top usually was high. It looked as if a planet had moved over the face, creating an absence of loaf the way the moon creates an absence of light when it covers the face of the sun.
Want to participate? First either get yourself a copy of A Writer’s Book of Days by Judy Reeves or read these guidelines. Then either check in to see what the prompt for the day is or read along in the book.
Tomorrow’ topic/prompt: Somebody makes a promise.
