Mews: Of Prophetesses and Sheets

Posted on August 26, 2003 in Cats

Fiona PhosphorBast be merciful! Has it really been two weeks since my last cat posting?

Even we are noticing that Boadicea and Fiona have been gaining on Virginia Mew. House politics continues to change subtly. Virginia now licks Fiona as if she were annointing a prophetess. Boadicea continues to step aside when Virginia wants to dine. I think Virginia consciously wants one of the two to be smaller than her. I suspect that Boadicea won’t be much larger than Ms. Mew once she reaches her full size. Fiona promises to be a mega-kitty.

The other day a neighbor said “Oh, they’re past the kitten stage.” I set her straight: no cat gets past the kitten stage until she is at least two years old.

Boadicea controls her bites now. She gently gnaws on my knuckles until I find her an appropriate toy or allow her to crawl on my chest. Fiona likes to bite us through the sheets. When I put on shorts to attend a pool party yesterday, I noticed that my shins were cratered and pockmarked. She drills holes like she was an oil tycoon some mornings. Then, when we’ve pulled out the tape measure to size her up for a rug, she blinks her eyes and wiggles her moustache adoringly. Or squeals as if we were her very last chance before the pound. Or assumes a position like the one at upper right.

What a cheat!

You might have missed the picture of me with Virginia Mew that Lynn took last week.
