I knew that I couldn’t be a hippie. I never did the drugs and I didn’t have nearly enough sex with willing women — and never with unwilling ones. I preferred to live on the fringes, doing my own thing which included listening to a lot of Peter, Paul and Mary. Frankly, a lot of the “cool people” struck me as some of the worst conformists, but then, I wasn’t really a sixties child but a seventies one.

Folkie feels more right to me. I think it’s the velvet Edwardian coat that sells the idea. Some people in my writing group think my writing sounds like Bob Dylan lyrics.
