The Dying God

Posted on August 26, 2003 in Book of Days

Note: This is part of a series based on exercises from A Writer’s Book of Days. It’s something of a rebellion against the Friday Five and similar tupperware content memes.

Today’s topic: Write about what has yet to happen.

The death of the Net is loudly proclaimed in many quadrants, mostly by those who have not yet sold out. You can rest assured that as soon as money starts to flow into their pockets that the Net will come alive again in their rhetoric because ultimately in human affairs what is real is money.

Every one of us who writes on the net, however tenuously tied, relies on money to be here. And that’s all I want to say. Thinking about this is like bearing a carved lava rock in the heart, pretty but heavy.

The InterNet’s the dying god of the early 21st century, being killed again and again and revived by brutal financial fertility offerings.

Want to participate? First either get yourself a copy of A Writer’s Book of Days by Judy Reeves or read these guidelines. Then either check in to see what the prompt for the day is or read along in the book.

Tomorrow’ topic/prompt: You are in the backyard.
