All the would-be Ansel Adamses preach the same philosophy when it comes to taking pictures. “Wait for the light.” I follow a different course when I take pictures, adapted from the street photography of Gary Winograd: “Keep moving. Look for the light and the shadow.”

In this way, you avoid the sedentary and repetitive views that afflict most photographers. You grasp things that are original to you.
