The Heat’s On

Posted on September 1, 2002 in Weather

Yesterday, we drove up to the top of Mount Modjeska. We looked out over the Saddleback Valley, identifying the major lakes through blue wisps. It’s strange how the richest and most beautiful clouds form on days like this one. I could almost have imagined the country to be clenched in ice. The chapparal attempted to convince us that it was already autumn, but the air temperature betrayed the actual season. September is the time of oppressive days cloaked in charring fogs. You get the gloom of winter and the worst of summer’s sweltering rages.

We still don’t have air conditioning. The fellow came by and checked the results of the isolation test on Thursday. The problem is in the cooling coil. Now we get to wait while the insurance company decides the best course of action. Good thing that these aren’t the people who handle our health insurance!

My weather. You can look. I don’t think it is a good idea that I do.
