The thighs of the mountains stretch out on either side as we force our candy-wrapped truck — give it the flavor of the dark skin of a lime — past voyeurs loitering in the cool of live oaks. Into the wilderness — the chapparal –and upwards, farther still. Through a forest like matted hair until we come to the ridged area where sensations conjoin. We slide even higher, snaking through a slit of rocky road, until we come to the place where Mounts Santiago and Modjeska — you may call them Jim and Helena — hump up side by side, heaving.
