Apologize to a Soldier

in Occupation of Iraq Sorrow & Regret
A chatter at UnderNet #political_forum proposed this:
[Meridell] I think when people come back from war, instead of a parade we should apologize to them. Tell them we are sorry we screwed up so badly that they had to go.
I like it. I think each of us should consider the ways in which we didn’t work hard enough to prevent their involvement. Here are a few that I can think of (my own faults are underlined):
- We didn’t protest loud enough in 2000 when Bush was allowed to steal the election.
- We voted for George W. Bush.
- We went along with Bush’s claims that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction and/or was involved in Al Qaeda.
- We allowed the Starrish Inquisition to sidetrack us with concern about Bill Clinton’s penis.
- We allowed the Reagan Adminstration to send Saddam Hussein weapons that he used to kill Kurds and Iranians, grounds which are now used to justify the war.
- We kept making excuses for the war and the occupation after we found that there were no WMDs and no links to Al Qaeda
- We didn’t press to end our dependence on oil.
- We failed to limit corporate campaign contributions.
- We gave Bush a blank check for the War on Terrorism after 9-11.
- We allowed ourselves to become fearful and obsessed with what other countries, other people might do to us.
- We allowed Bush to shift money away from military families and veterans’ benefits into contracts for more war equipment even though it is obvious that we can more than defend ourselves in a war.
- We forgot that our soldiers were people who had feelings.
- We called those who questioned the motives of the Bush Administration traitors.
- We put our own luxury above the needs of other members of the world community.
