Debunking the “Debunking”

square046.gifOrcinius does a neat slice and dice job on the allegation that General Wesley Clark has gone off the deep end by not properly castigating Michael Moore for calling the pResident a “deserter”. The whole matter turns on what sounds to me like doubletalk. When Wolf Blitzer rumbled about the issue, Democratic National Committee Chair characterized the period of time when Bush was off in Alabama not doing his service as a Texas Air National Guardsman like so: “I would call it AWOL. You call it whatever you want.”

I think “desertion” fits the bill, too. As Orcinius points out:

Well, the core of the matter is fairly simple, and boils down to two facts that are simply not in dispute:

Bush blew off his physical in the spring of 1972, thereby ignoring a direct order from his superiors.

Bush then definitely performed no drills at all for any unit of the National Guard between early May 1972 and late November 1972 at the earliest. This is a period of nearly seven months.

The Libertines are in high form, trying to rewrite the language so that George W. Bush will not be labeled a coward or a chicken hawk.

Which reminds me: I invented another new term:

Sink-o-phants
Libertine Republicans who are determined to defend George W. Bush at all costs, even if it leads them into following this growing White Elephant into quicksand.

Glug glug glug.
