It’s politics Friday!
But over at The Gutless Pacifist, I’ve been talking religion! I’m beginning to think of the myth of Satan as a form of Heibelian mind control and a free dispensation to excuse acts of violence as “temptations” when it is you doing them to others:
The appearance of apparent Manicheans who feel there has to be a Devil if there is a God affirms my conviction that many people sicken themselves and wage emotional war on others by making the impersonal personal. At the same time, they open the door to a loss of accountability. If the Devil made Debney angry and caused him to react in anger to his computer crash, then whatever he did in that state he must not be accountable for. The Devil made him do it. Just like Eichmann was only following orders.
