Scratching at the Silence

square138.gifThe thing that is slowing me down is filling the brown notebook to meet tonight’s deadline. This month, despite extensions, I found myself with twenty eight pages to complete as of Friday. So I took out three paperclips, counted out increments of seven, and determined that I would finish them. I am down to less than seven pages now.

What do I fill them with? Drafts of poems, stacks of memories, notes about precious objects in my life, bits of stories. Despite the rapidness of my scribing, I believe that I have unearthed new material, new subject matter. Some of it will appear here. The rest shall be reworked for other venues.

UPDATE: Made the deadline with three hours to go. Now I get to read a couple of novels that I have been putting off. (23:22)
