A few topics never seem to go away. They attract commentators as long as the thread remains open. Lynn has a thread about one of our deceased cats which continues to draw anguished posters more than a year after our little Ambrose passed on. My immortal threads pertain to the suicide of Brandon Vedas (now closed) and lost wedding rings.
In the former case, I closed the topic because it became a magnet for vitriol against the victim and misunderstandings about the nature of suicide. I keep the latter open because there needs to be a place for pain. Rings may be just things in the greater cosmic order, but many people impregnate them with strong symbolic overtones. It’s important to have a place for despair and friendly voices who will speak compassionately, who will say “I know how it feels” and “remember that the ring isn’t the marriage. But I wish you luck in finding it again.”
