As summer passes into autumn, inland areas become more accessible. Next weekend we’re planning to run up to the Benedictine Monstery at Valyermo to attend their annual festival. The Empress wants to explore some museums in Los Angeles and I’d like to investigate some parts of the near desert or the Santa Monica Mountains. The Day of the Dead is coming and I want to go either to Santa Ana or to Mexico for the day. This is the season to do things, when the large bit of ripe mold on the face of the California cheese that is our metropole spews off summer tourists like spores. The good places will be mostly empty, decontaminated of gawkers by school schedules and the end of vacations.
If I can steel myself with benadryl and a tagamet in case the food is spicy, and if the Empress agrees, I might attend this event in Santa Monica. kd says that she will be there. Skits is the master planner.
I’m shy of crowds though I do a good act of looking sociable. I’ll have my cheap digital in hand and a notebook. If I duck Santa Monica, there’s a highway cleanup at Crystal Cove coming down. The people will be slightly less unfamiliar to me than the ones I’d be meeting in Santa Monica. It depends on my fears. I’ll chew my fingers before and after either affair. Maybe kd and I can compare the effects of our compulsions?
