Prescription

square130.gifWhen I got off the treadmill, the nurse handed me a towel. The internist scratched his head. “You need more salt in your diet.”

“You shouldn’t be sweating this much,” chimed in the nurse.

I don’t know how I fell into the habit. When I was young, my parents used to tell me to put more salt on my food so it would taste better. I don’t remember if it was rebellion, disgust with their gluttony, or just that I liked the taste of things without salt. I never added extra to my meal.

So part of the reason for my dehydration was that I wasn’t getting enough salt. I had to add it to the menu if I wanted to exercise as I have been.

So I went down to Trader Joe’s and picked up several packages of potato chips. I’ll parcel them out in zip lock bags and eat a few before I go out hiking.

More salt. If I run into Lot’s wife out there in the desert, I’ll give her a lick.
