The scoundrels in the Congress have retreated, once more, to their last, proven refuge — patriotism. The question is have the American People caught on yet?
In three weeks time, the first of two politically inspired constitutional amendments comes before the Congress. The Senate is due to vote on the Federal Marriage Amendment, an invasive, anti-states-rights tumor which the Libertines want to graft onto the U.S. Constitution mostly because it will sell in Kansas and cement their minority rule not only of the White House and also of the Congress. (The majority of Senators are elected by less than 39% of American voters. We are overdue for reform.)
I stand against this because I oppose making the Constitution a vehicle for discrimination against people because of their sexual orientation. The criminalization of differences in personal character constitutes an unwarranted act of psychic violence. Furthermore, the Federal Government’s intrusion into marriage constitutes an undermining of that institution. Who I choose for a relative should not be a matter for state intrusion beyond asking that I enter into the relationship without disease and that I register my partnership for purposes of taxation, inheritance, and litigation. No government should have the right to declare who cannot be my chosen relative.
For this reason, I invite you to send a message to your Senators. We must not allow the constitution to become heavy with initiatives designed to appeal to popular madness and hatred.
