The Upshot

square104.gifI ran into the editor of the anthology which I mentioned earlier this month. The one that lost the submissions I made in 2003. I told her about my conflict and how I resolved it. She said that she wouldn’t have minded if I’d pulled some of the pieces out and submitted better material that I had written subsequently.

“It wouldn’t have been fair to the other poets,” I said. She turned her back to talk to someone else.

I don’t know about this scene. I wish I could find people who weren’t into boosterism and who loved writing for its own sake. I’d love to be rewarded for having integrity.

We complain that the world is full of cheats and scoundrels. Then we fail to praise those who sacrifice advantages not to be them.

So hear hear! I shall sing my own praises.
