Today’s images are a gift to my friends who have stopped reading their newspapers, watching the television news, or listening to the radio because the news that our nation’s leaders and our media will not listen to their common sense discourages them. I give them this native green of California’s autumn, to remind them that life and beauty can persist in the most resistant places.

This is your charge: Be that beauty in the dark days to come. Breathe the poet’s breath. We shall save America with our hope, our humor, and our visions.
