Riding a Sheet of Gelatin

Posted on June 12, 2005 in Disasters

square0069.gifThat we had an earthquake here in California has already made the news across the country. Newspapers in the Midwest, worried about the flow of humanity out of the flat perspectives of Kansas and Nebraska, eagerly posted the story to their webpages. Perhaps some Fundamentalists fell to their knees (as they do everytime the ground shakes here in California) and thanked God for yet another sign of the Last Days and the Rapture.

I was in bed when the two sides of the San Jacinto Fault squeezed past one another. The bed vibrated lightly as if it had come to float on a long sheet of Jello. For a few seconds it continued like this. “Should I get up and stand in the door?” I asked myself. The gelatin bucked like a horse beginning to throw its rider, so I jumped to the door. And it was over.

So much for the Anza earthquake that happened at 08:41:46 PDT today. Jesus the Warrior didn’t come today. I went back to sleep.
