A Shadow of Someone Else’s Pet?

square257“There are lots of black cats here,” said the boy we stopped today. Always talk to the kids when it comes to animals, I explained to Lynn. They know what is really happening. It seems that we may not be chasing our Virginia Mew at all, but shadows belonging to other people. But this is the only place where we have had sightings and Lynn is considering more aggressive tactics.

Today she announced that she was looking into renting a humane trap. We’d lay it out on a hillside near the apartment complex, one where the [[chaparral]] affords numerous bivouacs against the weather. Rain has fallen for the last two days and tonight we expect more: the persistance of the showers has not, however, driven our pet back into our arms. I’m wondering if she’s just too far afield or a component of coyote scat.
