Of Silence and Canyons

square276If you haven’t been following my Twitter, you won’t know that I’ve been back for a couple of days. The prairies and mountains acted as one long streak of whiteout for any writing and they didn’t make it easy for my photography, either, though I did finish four rolls of film and captured a few cel phone images of the Virgin River Gorge as I rode shotgun along Interstate 15. (See latest additions here.)

This is the longest, most insouciant stretch of blankness that I have experienced. I could find adventures in the most ordinary of walks: now I pass through deserts, prairies, canyons, mountains, and wild suburbs without the slightest scratch of impulse or impression.

I’ll try to tell you stories of Utah. Under those blue skies, I saw things, but they would not clasp hands with words.
