I’m saddened to read that the government of Malaysia, displayed a feigned humanitarianism by allowing former deputy prime minister and prisoner of conscience Anwar Ibrahim only 90 minutes to attend the funeral of his elder brother. He appeared in a wheel chair, wearing a neck brace and bandages on his feet. His guards beat him back when he was first arrested in 1988 and he’s been on painkillers ever since.
Anwar should not be in prison at all.
It’s that sex thing all over again. Last year, the Malaysian government trumped up charges that Anwar and his friends indulged in “sodomy”. I’m sure they took their key from the Starrish Inquisition’s unrelenting attacks on Bill Clinton. Anwar’s real crime seems to be that he led demonstrations calling for the ouster of Malaysia’s prime minister, who has been growing fat on the public dole and kickbacks from the fashion industry since 1981.
Two thoughts: first, sodomy shouldn’t be a crime when it occurs between consenting adults; and second, I doubt that Anwar Ibrahim is guilty. Despots the world over have been using the sex angle to prosecute and intimidate political opponents all over the world, urging us to distain them for sins that in the traditional order of things rank less in severity than the sins the accusers themselves commit, namely greed and malice.
Kenneth Starr: You are an evil man, not only a active sinner but a tempter of others. You gave the go to repressive and corrupt governments all over the world for your special form of legalistic sexual harassment . You covered the Right’s hidden agenda of corruption in high places, workplace exploitation, and stock swindles. If there is a hell, I suspect that you are so without regret that they have a spot reserved for you in the one of the lower circles if not in the very bottom of the pit, frozen in the ice next to Lucifer.
