Neo-Confederate Doubletalk

Posted on December 27, 2002 in Roach-B-Gone

A fine example of Neo-Confederate doubletalk was posted today to a blog entry I wrote last Spring. All the classic symptoms of Southern Fried Political Correctness are there as a response to both my article and to some additional comments by another person who prefers accuracy to myth.

Get yourself some popcorn and enjoy the tragi-comedy. No need for me to rebut the fellow: he responded to my analysis by doing exactly what I said he’d do!

For a historically accurate and classic rebuttal to the Scarlett O’Hara myth, incidentally, check out Robert Penn Warren’s
Band of Angels
. (Premise: what if Scarlett O’Hara discovered, after her father’s death, that she was a slave? That’s right. Uh oh!) They can’t dismiss this as Yankee propaganda: Penn Warren’s Southern bred. He also wrote
All the King’s Men
.
