Raye predicts Bush’s victory in 2004 if we don’t heed the lessons of an article she read in the New York Times.
My thought: The Republicans will continue to thrive on our belief that we cannot beat them. It will be an error to become more like them: the close elections of recent years and the apathy are their tool.
We must, I think, keep at our criticisms of them every day. We must scrutinize the counting of election closely and we must have the courage to bypass the media. We must deny leadership to negativists who don’t think solid issues like health care and the economy matter. If necessary, we must bolt the Democratic Party for a new party.
The time may be ripe for the Greens to do an end run. We capitalize on the peoples’ sickness and dissatisfaction with the media and the government. We make this not only a political issue, but a human rights issue.
Even if it looks like we will not win, we will go to the polls on Election Day, we will cast our ballots, we will demand accountability.
If we prevail, it will be because we did not give up when things looked grim.
I believe we have already made one mistake: we convinced Al Gore that he lost the election. It will be a hard recovery, but we can do it.
