The shelves were both empty and full. A mustiness that spoke of dead books written in dead languages, cereal that had been on the shelf too long, and the garage corners piled with old clothes pushed into my nostrils.

I found myself dreaming that I either owned or played a key part in an organization which trapped and enslaved women. The idea was so horrific to me that I woke myself up and turned over to allow the blood to pool on the right side of the brain.
I had a more satisfying dream after I did that. I was working in a half way house giving encouragement to an agoraphobic murderer. He knew that he hated violence but he was afraid to go out onto the streets of the city. I left because a friend of mine had been captured by an evil god who lived in the subway system. To save her, I had to defeat four sets of monsters: some gigantic bipedal pink rhino-like form and its minions, a set of evil witches, a guy who kept promising me that he had something really scarey he was working on in a back area, and various zombies in the employ of the god itself. The first god (who I never saw) was deposed by a second god who looked like a cross between a hornless manta ray and a raft of worms. I used my mind to blast it off the top of its ziggurat. The zombies came back to life and thanked me. Everyone went out into the streets of the city which had been empty until I defeated the evil one.
