I’ve often complained about the purple plum tree that grows just beyond our deck. In the winter, a candelabra of reddish sticks pokes out of the hard ground. Summer brings a monster, dripping with dark leaves and pustulent, sour fruit.
Our tree is the last to revive and the first to litter the sidewalk.
On the morning that I went to have my teeth cleaned, I walked out to water the potted plants. As I showered the freesia, I looked up to see the pink eruption. While I’d focused my eyes on my notebooks and other interiors, the season of frost had ended.
We’re back from our retreat in Julian. Thank you Bill for minding the site while I conducted my inner search.
