square036Congratulations on purchasing The Sims 2: Bipolar Edition. Here are a few new features that you will experience during game play:

  • Periodically, often without warning, your Sim will go into episode. This can be either manic or depressive. Depressions will typically last longer than manias.
  • In manic episodes, your Sim will suddenly gain full energy levels. These will not disappear for the duration of the episode. You will be able, for example, to party for days without end. There may be a tendency to buy drinks for everyone, go to work in its underwear, or spend money on large amounts of clothing to the Sim’s uttermost credit limit.
  • Manic episodes are followed by depressive episodes. Your Sim will suddenly lose all but enough energy to get in bed. Your Sim will lose all interest in eating, social activities, work, computer chatting, etc. S/He will remain in bed for several days. Energy will come back very slowly.
  • Episodes may be triggered by answers to aspirations and unhappy life events.
  • Your Sim may seek the help of a psychiatrist. The psychiatrist may prescribe medications. Medications differ for each Sim and there may be unpleasant side effects such as increased bladder function, decreased hygiene, or alterations to the energy cycle. Your Sim must return to the psychiatrist for med changes. Going off the medications means that symptoms will return with a vengeance.
  • Some medications may produce mixed states. In these cases, fun will drop to zero but energy shall be at maximum. Your Sim may be likely to commit suicide using pills, handgun, or rope.
  • New object: handgun. Sim’s who buy this item will have a higher percentage of successful suicides than those who don’t. Death may not be cheated in handgun suicides.
  • New object: pills. These are benzodiaphaphens. They are assumed to be in every Sim’s bathroom.
  • New object: rope. Enough for Sim to hang her or himself. Found in automobile or curtains.
  • Junior Sims may have ADHD problems and need Ritalin. Ritalin will increase the Sim’s ability to complete homework assignments.

We hope you enjoy your new game.
