The Bright Side of a Dark Holiday Season

Posted on December 12, 2002 in Attitudes

Ever see Life of Brian? Check the last scene. I’m sure you’ll find that there’s someone on one of those crosses who looks a bit like me. Scan the back. And sing along: “Always look on the bright side of life!”

I’ve been following the joyful preparations for the holidays undertaken by so many of my friends online: all the scrubbing of the house; the cutting, hauling in, and decorating of the tree; shopping in crowded malls; the baking of the cookies; the hanging up of the lights; the writing of party invitations; etc. And I see a bright side to our current situation: with no money to spare for such things, we can spend the forthcoming days doing things like printing out business cards, writing cover letters for resumes, running down to Staples for more supplies, eating Hamburger Helper, taking walks down to the local park, and not shopping or baking or doing any of the labors associated with the season.

Lucky us.
